Operations

DEMA’s operative branch provides assistance to the police and fire and rescue services in major personnel-intensive emergencies or in situations requiring special equipment.

Furthermore, DEMA leads the response of the Danish authorities to nuclear emergencies abroad for protecting the population and environment, and provides expert advice and assistance to authorities in incidents involving hazardous or unknown substances.

Disaster response abroad

DEMA provides support and aid to other organizations and countries during and after natural disasters. In the field of disaster response, DEMA is able to contribute with many different types of support. This includes:

  • Base camps – a comprehensive concept for sophisticated base camps
  • Health care – flexible health care solutions including a fully operative mobile emergency hospital
  • Water purification – providing clean water in disaster areas
  • Specialists – recruiting of specialists upon request from other organizations
  • Heavy USAR – A large search and rescue team

DEMA’s international operations often start up by request from a UN organization. Operations vary – from emergency search & rescue operations following an earthquake to long-term projects aimed at strengthening a country’s capacity for handling its own future disasters.
